ABOUT ROSETTA ARTS
The Rosetta Arts stands as a creative landmark in East London. Founded in 1993 by Yvonne Humble, a visionary educator and RCA graduate, the organisation began in a single classroom at Rosetta Primary School with a radical belief: art should be accessible to everyone, not just the privileged few.
What started as a small, experimental art programme grew into something far greater. Yvonne's approach was innovative and personal, encouraging students to develop their own creative journeys over three years, nurturing talent, entrepreneurial skills, and artistic confidence.
Today, Rosetta Arts is based at the Gainsborough Learning Centre in West Ham and has become a leading community visual arts centre, equipped with a pottery studio, printmaking and painting rooms, a gallery, a photography studio, and at its heart, a cherished darkroom.
As an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, Rosetta Arts continues its mission to provide transformative arts experiences for underrepresented communities in Newham and across East London.
And now, Musings Darkroom proudly continues that legacy.
Photography is often understood through its commercial applications—in industry, advertising, and the press—rather than as a space for artistic exploration.
At Musings PhotoSpace, we approach photography as a vital artistic medium, one that benefits from the same opportunities for experimentation, reflection, and creative development as painting, sculpture, or any other art form.
We offer a space where artists working with photography can shape the direction of their own work, and where they can develop their practice on their own terms.
We are interested in photography's capacity to ask questions, tell stories, and open new ways of seeing.
Being a CIC means that Musings Photo Space is committed to social good over profit. We dedicate all our funding—public or private—to enhancing our programs, including our internship initiative and dynamic exhibitions, ensuring that every contribution directly enriches our shared creative journey.

Musings Darkroom offers bespoke, one-to-one workshops tailored to your level—whether you're a beginner or an experienced photographer. It's a thoughtful blend of technical skill and creative care, all in a welcoming space where craft and passion come first.
Enlarger bookings are open to everyone—no membership needed. Come in for a session, work at your own pace, and enjoy the darkroom in full confidence. Many first-timers love it so much they end up joining our community.
Need a change of scenery? Book our DeskSpace for a day—a quiet, creative corner to work, think, or edit. Open to everyone, with everything you need to settle in and focus. Join us for a day, and see how it feels to work among fellow creatives.

Rooted in collaboration and the freedom to make mistakes, we believe that learning in photography, as in life, is about learning and playing with the rules when necessary. As Berenice Abbott said: “When there is a good reason for breaking a rule, do not hesitate to do so.”
Our purpose is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where practitioners of all levels and genders can explore analogue photography without barriers. As a feminist organisation, we champion openness, inclusivity, love, and intergenerational dialogue while actively rejecting racism, machoism, colonialism, and all forms of discrimination.
Analogue photography is more than a medium—it’s a tool for connection, empowerment, and creative resistance. Join us to develop your practice in a space where you can slow down, experiment, and grow within a truly supportive community.

Inclusivity is fundamental and differences are celebrated.

Intersectional feminism acknowledges the complex interplay between different forms of discrimination and oppression.
Intersectionality recognises that people may experience multiple layers of marginalisation and aims to address these intersecting inequalities in a holistic manner.
