New Space
This is our plan.
At Musings PhotoSpace, what we really want is to become your creative space – somewhere you can feel free, while also feeling connected to other artists. Somewhere to create new projects, share them, and share the things that aren't quite projects yet.
We are a space open to everyone. Open to different ways of expressing yourself, different ways of seeing/understanding photography, different ways of working, living, and above all – different ways of loving art, different cultures, different stories, different lives.
We want to create synergies. To create horizontally. To build creativity, and a network that holds us up when we feel a little lost.
If you want to.
This is an open invitation. And little by little, our members will help decide where we go, how we get there, and what beautiful ways we find to enjoy photography together.
We don't want to compete with other darkrooms. What we want is for people with fewer resources to have access to an analogue photographic space, so they can sustain their analogue creative work during a bridging period – allowing them to practise and improve their craft at an affordable price.
We want to be that space in time where experimentation, tests, and all the mistakes are included and celebrated as a time-space of creative growth. And where that time-space is not a financial burden, but instead a time of creative freedom, opening up horizons and new paths.
To have fun, debate, share resources and ideas, be a launchpad – where we can generate synergies and collaborations.

In this darkroom, we print the process.
Welcome to the Musings Darkroom Community
Musings Darkroom recognises members and learners as fellow practitioners. The community is built on relationships centred on creative growth, where every individual is a valued part of the collective experience.
Encouragement, help, and support are at the heart of the membership.
The journey here reaches far beyond the production of work, as members are active in the shaping of the darkroom.
Every practitioner is an essential component of shared growth and collaboration together, contributing to the evolution of the space and the craft.
This is a sanctuary for those who wish to be part of a supportive environment, where the focus remains on the joy of the process and the strength of the community.
Musings Darkroom: The Art of Bespoke Photography
Musings Darkroom specialises in the pure process of photography, providing a sanctuary where creative ideas and the craft of film take centre stage. The atmosphere is defined by a focus on shared exploration and a genuine passion for the evolving image.
The special vibe of a workshop at Lakeside Darkroom lies in its entirely made-to-measure nature. Every session is a personal, one-to-one journey designed to align perfectly with the individual. Whether a participant is just beginning their journey in photography or is an experienced practitioner seeking a more personal vision for their projects, the experience is tailored to their specific level, expectations, and needs.
These workshops combine technical rigour with profound care, ensuring the process is as engaging and enjoyable as it is precise. It is an invitation to a refined and interesting creative exchange, where every project is treated with the attention and professional excellence it deserves.
Enlarger Bookings at Musings Darkroom
Enlarger bookings are open to everyone. These individual sessions are an opportunity to experience the very best of the darkroom, even on a single occasion.
The focus of every booking is to ensure you feel entirely comfortable and confident while you work.
Because of this great experience, many people choose to join our membership community after their first session to continue their creative journey with us.
OUR VIBE
Rooted in collaboration and the freedom to make mistakes, we believe that learning in photography, as in life, is about learning and playing with the rules when necessary. As Berenice Abbott said: “When there is a good reason for breaking a rule, do not hesitate to do so.”
Our purpose is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where practitioners of all levels and genders can explore analogue photography without barriers. As a feminist organisation, we champion openness, inclusivity, love, and intergenerational dialogue while actively rejecting racism, machoism, colonialism, and all forms of discrimination.
Analogue photography is more than a medium—it’s a tool for connection, empowerment, and creative resistance. Join us to develop your practice in a space where you can slow down, experiment, and grow within a truly supportive community.
Feminism is about advocating for the equal rights and opportunities of all genders. It's rooted in the belief that everyone, regardless of gender, should have the same rights, opportunities, and freedoms.
Inclusivity is fundamental and differences are celebrated.
Feminism aims to have all voices heard, regardless of gender, race, age, socioeconomic status, mental or physical ability, sexual identity or religion.
Intersectional feminism acknowledges the complex interplay between different forms of discrimination and oppression.
Intersectionality recognises that people may experience multiple layers of marginalisation and aims to address these intersecting inequalities in a holistic manner.
Equality aims to leave no one behind, to challenge systems of inequality to create a more equitable society for all.
